Cadence Weapon x Grandtheft – “Press Eject”

Following the success of his 2021 Polaris Prize-winning album, Parallel World, Cadence Weapon returns with his latest single, “Press Eject,” pulled from his forthcoming album, Rollercoaster. As a creative who prides himself on delivering conceptual art that depicts the social issues of today, “Press Eject” serves as the perfect sampler of what fans can expect from Cadence Weapon’s sixth studio album. Flowing over a high-octane instrumental produced by Grandtheft, this latest offering from Cadence Weapon focuses on the overstimulation, dependence, and overconsumption of technology in our modern culture. The sense of urgency in Cadence Weapon’s bars alongside the hyperpop and electro-inspired production perfectly replicates the internet’s sensory overload effects, a theme set to play out on Rollercoaster.

With credits including the likes of Grandtheft, Jacques Greene, Machinedrum, Cecile Believe, Martyn Bootyspoon, Loraine James, Taydex, Wesley Singerman, myst milano, and Harrison, Cadence Weapon has assembled a combination of tried-and-true Canadian collaborators and “fellow Black weirdos,” as Pemberton puts it, to execute his vision. Acoustic interludes from Bartees Strange break up the discord, reminding listeners that they can return to a more “organic” mindspace, and perhaps they should indeed “touch grass.” Be sure to check out the latest release from Cadence Weapon, and keep an eye out for Rollercoaster, arriving April 19th via MNRK Music.
